The Director of Transportation is responsible for driving   the strategy and overseeing all transportation activities for the parent   company and subsidiaries.   An overall responsibility of this position   is to ensure 1) the operating performance and costs meet the expectations and   needs of cross-functional stakeholders; 2) appropriate staffing of drivers,   supervisors, and managers, and their growth of development; 3) equipment is   continuously evaluated to meet current and future needs; 4) a culture of   safety and customer service is created and sustained.

Essential   Responsibilities:

  •   Design, develop   and implement the strategy for continuous improvement of the transportation   function in collaboration with other functional leaders
  •   Work in   conjunction with other departments to assure seamless transportation and   delivery activity throughout the company-wide network
  •   Maintain   budgetary responsibility for the Transportation function.  Continuously monitor spending compared to budgets   to ensure achievement of department and company-wide goals
  •   Regularly   review cost benchmarking for transportation function for continuous   improvement opportunities and execute on findings
  •   Develop and   maintain key performance metrics (KPIs) and performance reporting to support   proactive communication and action
  •   Own and   consistently seek to deliver continuous improvements across the transportation   function.
    •   Identify and   implement YOY savings opportunities
    •   Standardize,   document, and improve both internal work processes and SOPs
    •   Coordinate with   IT to build systems and integration strategy, identifying areas were   technology can be employed to improve service and reduce cost
    •   Ensure the function remains in compliance with all federal and state   regulations and upholds safety standards throughout the team.
    •   Talent management activities including talent acquisition, training,   development, performance management and succession planning.
    •   Other responsibilities as assigned by CFO.
    •   Responsible for participating in the following meeting/committees:
      • Leadership team – quarterly
      • Budgets/Strategic Plans/Business Development   meetings – as needed
      •   Ad Hoc meetings   – as needed
      • Prepare and present annual budgets   and projections for CFO and division managers.
      • Meet regularly with direct reports   to assess staffing needs and assist in strategic planning, review of special   projects, and review business software and information systems needs with   respective managers regularly.

Position   Requirements:

  •   Bachelor's degree required.
  •   Master's degree preferred.
  •   Previous leadership experience.
  •   Managing budgets over $10M.
  •   Excellent financial acumen and demonstrated   process improvement experience.
  •   12+ years of experience in transportation,   logistics or engineering role with increasing responsibilities and track   record of continuous improvement.
  •   Knowledge and working experience in   ERP and Business Intelligence (BI).
  •   Complete support of and willing   adherence to Wenger's mission, vision and core values.  Applicant must hold these standards as   his/her own.

Language   Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical   procedures, production reports or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business   correspondence, and standard operating procedures.  Ability to effectively present information   and respond to questions from groups of team members and customers.

Mathematical   Skills:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as   probability and statistic.  Ability to   apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to   practical situations.  Ability to apply   mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution,   determination of test reliability and validity, sampling theory and analysis   of variance.
